Congratulations to my former roommate, Holly, and her now-husband, Brian!

If I were to ever have a wedding, I’d want it to be like Holly’s. Simple, beautiful, perfect. Not too hot (although it was pretty warm during the ceremony), not too wet (although a few raindrops fell at the end of the night), and full of friends, family, great food and dancing.

Okay, maybe it wouldn’t be exactly like Holly’s. But it would be nice to think it would work out just as well.

things i love about summertime in DC (or really, just today):

• rooftop pools
• warm sun, a cool breeze, and low humidity*
• saturdays with fun things planned that take no stress to do
• 7:30pm and the sun is still shining bright
• the smell of sunblock and chlorine on my skin
• driving home on an empty highway
• classic rock on the radio (the police, bonus points)
• driving on said empty highway with the windows down**
• the smell of a charcoal grill
• people playing beer pong in their driveway (i only drove by, i didn’t participate)
• relaxing with good friends
• knowing i can stay out late dancing as long as i want because i don’t have to wake up with an alarm in the morning on sunday

yes, i think this afternoon and early evening’s been about perfect. there’s still room craziness, of course, but as of this moment, i’m pretty darn relaxed. all that’s left to do is to take a shower, get dressed, and figure out who will be where tonight.

not too bad.

* this is rather unusual for DC.  august is typically “soupy” . . .  we’ll pay for this perfect weather – mid 80’s, sunny, and low humidity – later.  expect grumbling around september when we have another crazy heat wave.

** although this is quite enjoyable, and usually preferable when the weather is so good . . . it’s out of necessity.  my car’s air conditioning is broken.  i decided that i had better uses for the $1200 it would have cost to repair it.  yeah.

day174 :: year two

as you may or may not know, i’m currently working on a photography project – project365 :: year two.

yes, you read that link right. this is year two – i completed year one in january. you’d think i’d get tired of it, but actually, i got a little worried about *not* documenting every day. i mean, it’s become part of my every day routine. and, there’s really no rhyme or reason to this project. the only rules are to take a photo a day, for an entire year. sometimes i feel like photographing on a theme. most of the time, i’m just looking for interesting things, new angles, and most importantly – not to take the same photo twice.

so, in thinking about that last concept, i realized there are certain subjects i tend to feature more prevalently than others. it’s like taking photos when you go out with friends. inevitably, there’s someone who avoids being in the photos, even if they’re with you the entire time, and there’s someone who ends up in every shot. you end up with a disproportionate amount of photos of one person compared to the other.

metro, you need to stop getting in front of my camera.
